Multan Customs foils bid to smuggle silver from airport

MULTAN: Customs team deputed at Multan International Airport seized 14 kilograms of silver at Multan International Airport in their action.

According to details, Multan Customs Collectorates has taken foolproof measures to check the smuggling of gold and US dollars at the Multan International Airport on the special instructions of Federal Board of Revenue.

Multan Customs Collector Ambreen Ahmad Tarar received credible information from the source that smuggling may be done through Multan International Airport. Collector directed Assistant Collector Omer Bin Zafar Chatha to tp to take all necessary measures to foil any attempt of smuggling.

Customs staff recovered 14 kilogram silver and foreign currency from the luggage of a passenger during examination who was traveling to Dubai from Multan International Airport and silver was concealed in the clothes and other goods. Customs teams arrested the passenger who was trying to smuggle silver and accused was identified as Rahim Ali. Customs found that said passenger has no proof for possession of silver and foreign currency.

During preliminary interrogation of customs team, accuse told that he is resident of Rawalpindi and he was going to Dubai. The value of recovered silver and currency was almost Rs950,000.

Customs teams seized the silver under Customs Act 1969 and further investigations were still under way till the filing of this report.
