Multan Customs impounds smuggled betel nuts & cigarettes near Vehari Chowk

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Multan has seized huge quantity of betel nuts and cigarettes during the raid near Bus Stand Vehari Chowk.  The market value of seized goods is Rs7 million.

Sources told Customs Today that on the instructions of Collector Dr.Rehmatullah Vistro, Deputy Collector Hira Touqeer, Assistant Collector Maryam Jamila have strengthened the intelligence network and increased 0onitoring of suspicious transport routes. 

During the course, a public bus was spotted near Vehari Chowk bus stand. Checking of the vehicle led to recovery of betel nut, which was being transported in the garb of miscellaneous goods. The goods were belonged to notorious smuggler Haji Najabuddin Khan (Quetta Baluchistan Goods). 

However, when the field anti-smuggling squad of Multan team started to move the seized buses, several vehicles carrying suspicious persons attempted to stop the anti-smuggling staff action against them. .Bus owner and transporters along with their employees resisted against Customs staff and attempted to snatch the seized bus. However, Customs field intelligence unit team efficiently thwarted every attempt of the suspicious persons and safely brought the vehicle to its premises. 

Multan Customs staff has recovered almost 2000 kilograms of Betel nuts during their action and huge quantity ofCigarecttes it was almost Rs.7 million in the market. Multan Customs had tightened the noose around the smugglers across the country and giving tough time to the smugglers. It may be mentioned here that the buses and vehicles transporting smuggled goods are now being escorted by armed persons in luxury vehicles such as Vigo and Prado. Further investigation was still under process.
