Multan Customs Intelligence impounds vehicles, goods worth Rs 24m in Sept

MULTAN: Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded different vehicles and goods worth Rs 24.83 million during September of current fiscal year 2016-17.

According to the details, the department conducted various anti-smuggling operations against smuggler in its jurisdiction throughout the month and formed nine cases of smuggling. It registered five cases in Multan city, while remaining four cases were registered in Dera Ghazi Khan and Sadiqabad.

The Customs Intelligence impounded foreign origin smuggled vehicles, including Toyota Hilux Surf, Toyota Corolla G, Toyota Corolla X, Hino Truck and others while conducting raids against non-duty paid vehicles during the said period.

In addition, the intelligence officials confiscated miscellaneous goods worth Rs 12.13 million during from different areas of its jurisdiction.

Officials said that after the establishment of Sadiqabad office and permanent checkpoints, a decline has been observed in movement of smuggled goods and vehicles through this region, adding that only two seizure cases were detected in the city during September due to intensive monitoring by the intelligence staff.

Assistant Collector Furqan Mehmood told Customs Today that the Multan Customs Intelligence has secured the Sadiqabad region from rampant smuggling of goods and vehicles by establishing checkpoints. He added that monitoring against smuggling has also been increased in other areas.

It may be mentioned here that Customs Intelligence former director general Imtiaz Ahmad had inaugurated new office of Customs Intelligence in Sadiqabad in order keep a vigilant eye on smuggling of goods and vehicles.
