Multan Customs lodges FIR against owner of private warehouse

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) branch lodged FIR against unknown accused who were involved in smuggling of different contraband items recovered from warehouse.

Sources told Customs Today, Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization Multan team raided a private warehouse identified as Rana House located near Bahawalpur Bypass during their intelligence-based action.

Customs Anti-Smuggling teams found that huge quantity of contraband items including betel nuts, Zafrani Pati, chewing tobacco, gutka, monosodium glutamate (China salt), skimmed milk, Ladies cloth and other foreign origin goods from ware house.

The Collectorate received information that huge quantity of foreign origin goods were dumped secretly in the house to avoid law enforcement agencies raid.

he value of seized goods recovered from warehouse was almost Rs30 million and duty taxes of Rs.25 million.

Customs teams obtained permission from local magistrate before raiding the warehouse and local police were also called to to avoid any unwanted situation.

During preliminary interrogation of the Customs, smugglers have obtained warehouse on rent and no one was there at the spot. Customs squad decided to detain said goods and shifted said goods in the Customs warehouse during their action.

Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling has started interrogations against owners for legal action and asked land owner to provide detail against accused. Multan Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I& P) branch has lodged criminal case against unknown accused for smuggling of said goods under Customs Act 1969.

Customs Investigation and Prosecution branch is also making efforts for the arrests of accused and further investigation is still under way.
