Multan Customs launches raids for arrest of suspects in smuggling case

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs started raids on different places for the arrest of suspects who are involved in smuggling of cigarettes, Indian gutka and other items.

According to details, Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) branch issued summons to suspect namely M/s Ashiq Ali son of Ali Jan who was allegedly involved in smuggling of cigarettes, Indian gutka and other items.

It is pertinent to mention here that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) raided a private warehouse situated near post office Chah Bohar Street Aziz Hotel Chowk, Multan, on 20th January and recovered huge quantity of cigarettes, Indian gutka and other items from Sharafat Ali and Atif Ali.

The Federal Investigation Agency team lodged FIR no.29/2019 against the accused and found them involved in smuggling of foreign origin cigarettes, Indian gutka along with other items.

During investigation of Federal Investigation Agency, they found that Ashiq Ali son of Ali Jan was providing facilitation for smuggling of contraband goods in the country through clandestine routes on his vehicle bearing registration MNT-3130.

The Federal Investigation Agency transferred the said case to Multan Customs Collectorate along with smuggled contraband items. Multan Customs Collectorate issued summons to suspect Ashiq Ali that he should appear before the investigation team and record his statement to clarify his position. But he did not appear before the Customs Investigation and Prosecution team and after that Customs teams launched raids at different places for his arrest. Further action in the said matter will be taken after the arrest of accused namely M/s Ashiq Ali.
