MULTAN: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has recovered huge quantity of contraband and prohibited tablets from three passengers at Multan International Airport.
Sources told Customs Today that Multan customs received tip off from their informer that smuggling attempt could be made from Multan International Airport and Customs staff deputed at Multan International Airport also enhance vigilant after the clue of smuggling.
Multan Customs found 9590 tablets of Psychotropic substance from the luggage of three passengers travelling from Multan to Dubai during examination process. Passengers who were carrying prohibited medicines identified as Muhammad Farooq, Ishrat and Mehmooda. They were going to Dubai from Multan via Shaheen Airline flight NL 761.
Passengers carrying huge quantity of drugs medicine which is prohibited abroad and medicine names were Xanax, Alprazolam and others. These tablets contain psychotropic substance in their ingredients and these recovered drugs are illegal and banned in foreign countries during travelling.
Deputy Collector Saad Ata Rabbani and Assistant Collector Zohaib Sandhila were also present at Multan International Aiprort on the directions of Collector Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich to intercept smuggler. All the three passengers were arrested after recovery of illegal drug medicines in huge quantity with the clear aim of their smuggling. These recovered drug medicines are not allowed to sell in Pakistan openly without the prescription of doctors and permission of health department.
Customs staff deputed at the Multan International Airport is on high alert to foil any attempt of smuggling of foreign currency and gold. Collector Multan Customs Sarfraz Ahmad Warriach has enhanced the monitoring at the Multan International Airport after the flow of foreign currency and gold from the country on the directions of Finance Minister and Chairman Federal Board of Revenue.
