Multan Customs seizes records of two deed-writers

MULTAN: A special team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation and Inland Revenue has seized the records of two deed-writers during a raid near Kachehri Chowk. The seized items includes computers, laptops, documents, registers and ledgers. Both of these deed-writers were involved in showing high value of properties at very low rates in documents  to give benefits to their clients.

Sources told Customs Today that the two deed writers were intentionally prepared such deed-agreements of properties in which they showed the value of high priced properties as low as up to 10 percent to save taxes and duties under the heads of capital value tax, and withholding tax, and stamp duties. As a result, the buyers and purchasers used to get financial benefits by cheating the government.

It is learnt that an organized network of collectors, registrars, lower staff of revenue department (patwari) and  deed-writers were involved in this crime and Customs officials are trying to catch the real culprits by the help of seized records.

While, on the other hand, the office bearers of deed-writers association said that the deed-writers are not guilty as they are not involved in any kind of irregularties.

According to sources, director Aqeel Ahmad Siddique on a tip-off formed a special team comprising deputy director Irfan Khan Tareen, auditor Mukhtar Ahmad Mehrvi, inspector Ghazanfar Siddique and other staff members under the supervision of deputy director Muhammad Akram Khan who raided the offices of two deed-writers and seized the available records on the spot under the section 175 of the Customs Ordinance 2001.
