MULTAN: In a major crackdown on smuggling activities, Customs authorities in Multan conducted a successful raid on a private cargo warehouse at the Railway Station.
The operation led to the seizure of a significant quantity of skimmed milk powder, with officials confiscating 120 cartons destined for various cities in South Punjab. The seized goods have an estimated market value of Rs3.5 million.
This seizure is part of an ongoing effort by Customs officials to combat smuggling in the region. Heightened surveillance and intensified anti-smuggling operations have forced smugglers to adopt new methods for transporting contraband goods.
Notably, smugglers are now utilizing Pakistan Post Office and Railway Cargo services to evade detection and deliver illegal goods.
Collector Customs Syed Imran Sajjad Bukhari has underscored the importance of these operations, directing the anti-smuggling team to rigorously monitor all movements of non-Customs goods. His directive aims to curb smuggling activities within the jurisdiction and ensure that all goods are legally accounted for.
“The successful raid and seizure of skimmed milk powder is a testament to our unwavering commitment to combating smuggling,” said Bukhari. “Our teams are vigilant and will continue to intensify their efforts to prevent any illegal activities.”
The Customs Anti-Smuggling Squad is currently investigating the individual or organization responsible for booking the shipment of skimmed milk powder. Authorities are also probing the broader use of cargo services by smugglers, seeking to understand the full extent of this smuggling network and its operations.
As part of the ongoing investigations, Customs officials are working to identify and apprehend all parties involved in this illicit trade. The comprehensive probe aims to dismantle the smuggling network and prevent future incidents.
