MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has seized non-customs-paid goods and vehicles worth Rs149.8 million during anti-smuggling operations against smuggled goods in month of July.
It was stated by Collector Multan Customs Collectorate Rehemat Ullah Vistro during a press conference at Customs House. Deputy Collector Hira Touqeer, Assistant Collector Maryum Jameela, Superintendent Rana Muhammad Mujtaba Noon and other officials were also present.
Collector said that Multan Customs anti-smuggling organization on a tip-off raided a godown near Vehari Chowk bus stand two days ago and seized huge quantity of smuggled cigarettes and betel nuts (chalia) of worth Rs 70 million in their action. He said that Multan Customs Enforcement was busy in controlling the menace of smuggling with limited resources.
Smuggling of Iranian Diesel and Petrol has been enhanced rampantly in the country due to rising prices in last few months. However, there was needed better coordination among concerned departments to make the society clean from smuggling. He said that action against Iranian Petrol pumps is the responsibility of OGRA and we were directed to not take any against Petrol Pumps for selling NDP oil.
Multan Customs is making every effort to foil attempt of smuggling and anti-smuggling organization is conducting intelligence-based operations in the region to eliminate menace of smuggling. Multan customs agency was actively working efficiently to eliminate smuggling within its limits.
He said that providing awareness to the masses was vital to eliminate smuggling. Multan Customs will continue their action against smuggling and adopt zero tolerance policy against them.
