Multan Customs seizes smuggled goods worth Rs61.231m from Rajanpur

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Preventive seized smuggled tyres, cloths, betel nuts, cigarettes and others worth Rs61.231 million during action in Rajanpur area.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Fayaz Anwar received credible information that bulk quantity of smuggled goods were smuggled through Baluchistan region to Punjab.

The Collector formed special team on the basis of credible information and directed Additional Collector Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi Deputy Collector Maqbool Ahmed Baloch to supervise the whole operation which comprising Inspector Asif Rafique Sandhu, Inspector Shah Nawaz Bakhar and others took action against smuggled goods. Customs anti-smuggling squad started patrolling on the suspected routes to enhance vigilance of suspected routes to foil any attempt of smuggling.

Multan customs anti-smuggling squad intercepted suspected 40 inch container near Ramzan Chowk Rajanpur and recovered almost 1004 tyres of brands , 133 tyres of Long March brand, 18 cartons of Dunhill cigarettes,21075 sachets of Indian origin gutka,10 cartons of motor cycle chains  and 70 cartons of metallic yarn cones during their action. Customs teams also recovered almost 2.950 tons of foreign origin value added silk fabric in assorted colours.

Smugglers were trying to supply these smuggled goods in South Punjab especially in Multan. Multan Customs seized recovered goods during their action. The value of seized vehicle along with container was also worth Rs15 million.

Drivers of the container were asked to present import documents of recovered goods to Customs staff on their demand. Customs found import GDs irrelevant after verification and taken different goods in their custody and framed seizure report against recovered goods under customs act 1969.

The values of seized goods were almost Rs.61.231 million. Customs teams started investigation against recovered goods for further investigations.
