Multan Customs taking effective measures to curb smuggling: Deputy Director Abdul Mueed Kanjoo

MULTAN: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan is working hard to prevent smuggling from Baluchistan and other provinces by enhancing their anti-smuggling activities.

These views were expressed by Deputy Director Abdul Mueed Kanjoo told this while talking to Customs Today in an interview. He told that his department has played significant role in restraining smuggling in the region by devising effective anti-smuggling strategy.

He said that Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan jurisdiction includes Dera Ghazi Khan, Sadiqabad and Multan region which comprised of almost 40 % Punjab province and they have huge responsibilities to protect their provincial boundaries from menace of smuggling.

Customs Intelligence Multan is combating hard against the smuggling in their region by showing zero tolerance police against smuggled goods and vehicles. Deputy Director told that Customs Intelligence and Investigation is making continuous efforts for the elimination of smuggling in the region by motivating their field intelligence staff for their crackdown.

He believed that Customs Intelligence Multan showed outstanding performance by taking timely action against smuggled goods and vehicles in the region. The number of seizure cases detected by Customs Intelligence and Investigation is also reflecting the performance of the Field Intelligence Unit. He told that Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office has detected 45 various seizure cases of worth Rs93.60 million and unearthing duty taxes of Rs53.60 million during their anti-smuggling drive in the territory in last three months.

Customs Intelligence has seized 31 vehicles of Rs54.10 million in less than months after taking his charge as deputy director of Multan Office from 16th December to onwards Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office also seized various goods and articles of worth Rs39.5 million during the same period.

He said that Customs Intelligence and Investigation is conducting anti-smuggling operations to prevent smuggling and protecting legal business of the country due to their improved action strategy in the region. Customs Intelligence and Intelligence is also getting full cooperation of law enforcement agencies in their anti-smuggling operations when they required any assistance to tackle smugglers.

He told that smuggling in the region has gone changes, which have had to combat equally adopting radical changes in the strategies of anti-smuggling operations.

Deputy Director Mueed Kanju stated that Customs Intelligence has taken effective measures taken in the region which have clogged smuggling of diesel and plastic granules. He believed that Customs Intelligence needs further powers and authorities to curb menace of smuggling.

He told that Customs Intelligence staff is vigilant and keep close eye on the transportation of goods by enhancing monitoring of goods at the entrance and exit of the various routes from other provinces.
