Multan Customs thwarts attempt to smuggle huge quantity of I-Phones

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has thwarted an attempt to smuggle imported branded I-Phones of worth Rs.1.34 million from Multan International Airport.

Sources told Customs Today that Multan Customs Enforcement authorities received credible information from their source that smuggling attempt can be made through Multan International and in pursuance of information and directions conveyed by the MCC Multan Collector Syed Imran Bukhari. The Customs staff posted was directed to remain alert at the Multan International Airport for the vigilant monitoring of the passengers goods in order to avoid any clearance of suspicious goods.

Sources informed that under the guidance of Collector Customs Multan Region Syed Imran Sajjad Bukhari, Customs Enforcement team, under the supervision of Deputy Collector Maryam Jamila, led by Shift Incharge Shahid Nawaz Mirza, Rauf Asif, Asghar Chohan, Huma Gilani, and Asad conducted operation during the checking of the baggage of passenger arriving from Sharjah.

During the examination of the passenger goods arriving from Sharjah by Gulf Airline flight no.G9-559, Customs teams focused a suspicious passengers holding two luggage bags and a hand carry shopping bag at the Customs Counters availing the green channel facility.

Customs recovered almost 38 I-phones from the custody of accused passenger and asked him to show legal documents of the said phones during examination of luggage. But he failed to present any import evidence to Customs staff at the time of examination. Then Multan Customs enforcement teams arrested the passenger for smuggling attempt.

Collector Multan Customs has applauded the performance of the staff which has thwarted the attempt of smuggling with alertness. The recovered goods were seized under section 168 of the Customs act, 1969 and the accused was arrested for further investigation in the smuggling charges. The Customs Enforcement team recovered a good number of earphones from the possession of a passenger at Multan International Airport.
