MULTAN: Multan Customs have accelerated efforts to arrest two alleged smugglers nominated in a gold and currency smuggling case worth Rs 67.5 million.
According to details, the customs officials raided different places of Multan and Lahore to arrest the suspects, who made an attempt to smuggle gold and currency through Multan International Airport.
Multan Customs Investigation and Prosecution branch has nominated two persons, Mazhar Balouch and Muhammad Riaz, accused in the case. The collectorate has obtained their arrest warrants from court. The names of these persons were revealed by women, who were arrested from the airport by the customs authorities during an action.
It is also pertinent to mention here that the customs foiled a bid of smuggling at Multan International Airport and recovered 14 kilogramme gold from two women and arrested them. Both arrested women smugglers named Sumaira Asif belong to Multan and Haleema Riaz of Lahore were going to Dubai wearing 14kg gold in the shape of bracelet around their feet and hands.
It was also revealed during interrogation that Haleema Riaz’s husband Muhammad Riaz has compelled her for travelling to Dubai. While Mazhar Balouch has dropped both of them at Multan airport and gave them a bag from which foreign currency was recovered.
Officials told Customs Today that Multan Customs officials were raiding hideouts of the accused persons in different cities, but they are still at large. They added that customs has expedited their efforts to arrest both absconders for initiating legal proceedings against them in the smuggling case.
