Multan Dry Port handles export consignments worth Rs 14.8b in FY16

MULTAN: The customs handled export-oriented consignments consisting of various goods worth Rs 14.831 billion at Multan Dry Port during last fiscal year 2015-16.

Major export commodities included cotton yarn, fabrics, leather products, garments, textile made ups and others. The cargo handling activities remained slow at the dry port as compared to financial year 2014-15 due to low yield.

Cotton Yarn is one of the major export items but in last fiscal year 2015-16 it was observed at lower level, as the yarn worth Rs 14.212 billion was exported in fiscal year 2014-15 and Rs 7.747 billion in FY 2016.

The Multan Dry Port handled export consignment of fabric valued at Rs 3.321 million during FY 16 that was around two percent less than the preceding year 2014-15. It is second major items exported through the dry port.

The export of leather products also observed decline of 6 percent, as items worth Rs 1.738 billion were exported in FY 16 against the value of Rs 1.844 billion in FY15.

The value of exported garments through Multan Dry Port stood at Rs 446 million in financial year 2015-16 and it observed 31 percent increase over the FY 15, when garments worth Rs 341 million were exported.

An increase was also witnessed in export of other items in FY 16 when items worth Rs 1.084 billion were exported against Rs 473 million in FY 15.

It may be mentioned here that consignments worth Rs 20.957 billion were exported through the dry port in FY 15, while in FY 16, it stood at Rs 14.831 billion facing shortfall of Rs 29 percent.
