MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue raided a illicit tobacco factory in the Multan and detected huge amount of tax revenue during their action.

The recent crackdown on an illicit cigarette manufacturing facility in Jalalpur Pirwala by the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue Multan, led by Additional Director Zualfqar Ali and Deputy Director Dr. Sharafat Abbas, sheds light on the rampant underground economy that undermines legal frameworks. The clandestine production of counterfeit cigarettes not only deceived consumers with various brand names but also posed a significant threat to public health.

Operating outside the bounds of legality, the factory evaded mandatory registration and approval from the Federal Board of Revenue, resulting in staggering financial losses for the national treasury. The evasion of Federal Excise Duty, Sales Tax, and Income Tax amounted to billions of rupees, exacerbating the burden on the country’s economy.

The prolonged surveillance by the Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Multan uncovered the extent of the factory’s illicit activities, culminating in a well-coordinated raid on March 2nd, executed in collaboration with law enforcement agencies. Seizures during the raid included not only large quantities of illegal cigarettes but also materials integral to the manufacturing process, such as tobacco and counterfeit packaging.

This decisive action not only brought an immediate halt to the factory’s operations but also initiated legal proceedings against those responsible for the unlawful production and distribution of counterfeit cigarettes. Beyond just enforcing the law, this operation signifies the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguard public health and protect the integrity of the national economy against illicit practices.
