Multan I&I recover huge quantity of betel nuts & smuggled goods worth Rs8m

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation and Railway Police recovered huge quantity of betel nuts and various smuggled goods  of worth Rs8 million in their joint operation.

According to details, Customs Intelligence and Investigation received reliable information from their source that huge consignment of smuggled goods  including TP link ,internet networking routers ,WiFi devices  and others will be transported through train.

Deputy Director Khial Muhammad Khan formed special team including Inspector Malik Muhammad Nasir, Inspector Umer, Inspector Haq Nawaz, Shakeel ur Rehman and others for thwarting any attempt of smuggling attempt from Shalimar Express.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation team raided Shalimar Express which was coming from Lahore en-route to Karachi at Khanewal Railway Station for usual stop. Shalimar Express did not have any stop at Multan Railway Station due to its non-stop travelling for passengers and it stayed at five stations only from Lahore to Karachi.

Field Intelligence Unit of Multan Customs has informed Railway Police for assistance when Shalimar Express reached at Khanewal Station. Shalimar Express have only 20 minutes approved stop at Khanewal Station and Customs Intelligence took their action in less than 20 minutes at Khanewal against smuggled goods.

Customs Intelligence staff along with Railway Police raided at the luggage van of Shalimar Express and recovered huge quantity of betel nuts packed in 20 different polythene bags, gutka, chewing tobacco,180 TP link  devices and 400 internet networking routers  along with other goods.

The recovered goods were packed in the cartons and was booked from Lahore Railway Station and its destination was Karachi Railway Station.

The Customs Intelligence team has taken recovered goods in their custody and asked cargo department to provide details of consignee  for further action.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan has seized the recovered goods after verification under Customs act 1969 and formed seizure report of the captured items. The market value of the seized goods is almost Rs.8 million. Further investigations are still under way.
