Multan I&I recovers smuggled cigarettes worth Rs40m

MULTAN: Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue recovered huge quantity imported cigarettes worth Rs40 million from Khanewal region.

As per details, Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue Multan has received credible information that huge quantity of foreign origin cigarettes dumped in the private warehouse.

Director Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue formed special team to take action against secret warehouse on the direction of Federal Board of Revenue after mounting concrete information.

Directorate of Intelligence team took special measures for the recovery of non-duty paid cigarettes by taking effective measure and assistance of local police after seeking permission from magistrate before the raid of secret warehouse. Intelligence and Investigation team raided the warehouse located in the area of Kacha Khu District Khanwal.

During raid of the Intelligence and Investigation staff, they recovered 1200 foreign origin cigarettes including different brands. Customs Intelligence teams found that secret warehouse was belong to accuse Hameed ullah.

Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation seized the recovered and shifted to their office on four different trucks. Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation has also lodged criminal case against owner of warehouse who was involved in the illegal business of Cigarettes and his business was also registered with Federal Board of Revenue. Accused was evading millions of taxes from his illegal business .Further Investigation was still under process.
