MULTAN: Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Multan Region, has stepped up its anti-smuggling operations, seizing non-customs paid goods and vehicles valued at approximately Rs803.194 million during June 2024.
Under the leadership of Director Asif Abbas Khan, and with strong backing from Member Customs (Operation) and Director General Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, the Directorate has adopted a stringent zero-tolerance policy against smuggling. This approach has resulted in significant successes, with Additional Director Mumtaz Ali Raza and Deputy Directors Umair Zahid playing pivotal roles in intercepting smuggling routes and thwarting illicit activities, despite resistance from criminal networks.
In line with the directives from Director General Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, Director Asif Abbas Khan spearheaded aggressive anti-smuggling measures. Throughout June, teams led by Additional Director Mumtaz Ali Khan conducted targeted operations at multiple checkpoints across various cities in the region.
The confiscated items include vehicles, smuggled diesel, cigarettes, betel nuts, Paan Parag, Iranian saffron, Chinese salt, and various other products. These items have been impounded under the Customs Act of 1969 and transferred to a designated warehouse for further processing.
The seized goods also encompass non-duty paid cigarettes, poppy seeds, sexual medicines, gutka, crushed betel nuts, plastic bags, high-speed diesel, and skimmed milk, among others. In total, 22 seizure cases were reported by the Field Intelligence Unit of Customs during June.
Director Asif Abbas Khan emphasized the department’s unwavering dedication to combatting smuggling, stressing the negative impact of such activities on the national economy and local industries. Customs authorities in the Multan Region have pledged to continue their proactive stance against smuggling networks and intensify enforcement measures to prevent future illicit activities.
