MULTAN: Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations (I&I) has seized goods and non-duty paid vehicles valued at over Rs499.891 million in their successful actions during May 2022-23.
In a determined effort to curb smuggling, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Multan, directed by Director General Ali Raza Hanjra, has confiscated a large cache of smuggled goods, including high-speed diesel, non-duty paid vehicles, cigarettes, milk powder, gutka, and other contraband items. The operations were led by Regional Director Asif Abbas Khan Buzdar and Additional Director Mumtaz Ali.
Addressing the media, Director Asif Abbas Khan Buzdar, flanked by Additional Director Mumtaz Ali, disclosed that in May alone, the customs Intelligence teams seized smuggled goods and non-duty paid vehicles valued at over Rs499.891 million.
The haul included 17 non-duty paid vehicles, 16,800 litres of Iranian smuggled diesel, 70 kg of Indian gutka, 2,850 kg of skimmed milk, 25 bags of Chinese salt, 20,000 prohibited medicine tablets, 8,510 packets of cigarettes, 3,500 units of imported cream, 865 kg of cloth, and 1,440 kg of shopping bags and tyres.
All seized items have been taken under the Customs Act of 1969 and moved to a warehouse for further investigation. These operations, carried out at various entry and exit points in different cities of the Multan region, were conducted following the directives of Director Asif Abbas Khan Buzdar and under the leadership of Additional Director Mumtaz Ali Khan.
Director Asif Abbas Khan emphasized the department’s unwavering commitment to fighting smuggling, noting its harmful effects on the national economy and local industries. He stated, “Our teams are resolute in their mission to eliminate smuggling activities. Smuggling undermines the country’s economy and obstructs the growth of local industries. The Customs I&I Multan Region will not only maintain its operations but also increase efforts to thwart smugglers.”
These proactive measures highlight the dedicated efforts of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation teams in addressing smuggling and reducing its impact on Pakistan’s economic stability.
