Multan Preventive seizes gutka & black raisins worth Rs94.874m

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized huge quantity of gutka and black raisins worth Rs94.874 million under the garb of Afghan Transit Trade.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Fayyaz Anwar received credible information from his source that huge quantity of smuggled goods will be transported from Multan through Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh route.

Collector Fayyaz Anwar constituted special anti-smuggling squad Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan including Asif Rafique Sandhu, Inspector Muhammad Ali Khaira and others to thwart any attempt of smuggling. Additional Collector Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi supervised the entire operation.

Customs Anti-Smuggling squad started patrolling of the suspected routes and enhanced the vigilance of various routes to intercept them.

Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted suspected trucks near Muzaffargarh which were loaded with huge quantity of Gutka (Safina) brand.

Customs teams recovered 1024 bags and every bag was packed with almost 50 packets which were packed in different sacks during the examination of trucks. It was also revealed in the initial interrogation that Smugglers were trying to supply these smuggled goods to different retailers of South Punjab especially in Multan region. Recovered Gutka brand Safina was Indian Origin and it was transported in the country through Chaman to Wagha Border under the garb of Afghan Transit Trade. But Customs Preventive teams foil their attempt of smuggling due to timely action against them.

Customs teams seized smuggled goods and started legal action them after framing seizure report against the recovered goods under Customs act 1969.Further investigation against recovered goods were still under process.
