LAHORE: Prosecutor General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Waqas Qadeer Dar has said that NAB achieved success of 77.6 percent in cases filed by it in courts and 416 accused were convicted since 2011.
Addressing a press conference here, he said NAB recovered Rs 280 billion in its actions against corrupt elements since it was established and returned the money to the national exchequer.
He said NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry chalked out a policy of zero tolerance on corruption which had helped in ending corrupt practices from the country. He said in 2010, 67 accused, in 2011, 53 accused, in 2012, 58 accused, in 2013, 53 accused, in 2014, 44 accused, in 2015, 62 accused and till November this year 79 accused were convicted by the accountability courts.
He said across the country, 94 prosecutors were working in seven bureaus of the country. These prosecutors assisted the court in their proceedings. Dar said NAB had formed a system of joint investigation teams which consisted of investigation officers and legal advisers. Because of this system of joint investigation, a single individual could not affect cases and this system had remarkably improved the performance of NAB.
The prosecutor general said in 2010, 52 accused, in 2011, 48 accused, in 2012, 51 accused, in 2013, 29 accused, in 2014, 23 accused, in 2015, 56 accused and till November 30 this year 18 accused were acquitted.
In 2010, the rate of conviction was 56 percent, in 2011, 52 percent, in 2012, 53.2 percent, in 2013, 64.6 percent, in 2014, 64.6 percent, in 2015, 52.5 percent and till November 30 this year the rate was 81 percent.
He said on the writ petitions of NAB in high court, in 2010, 186 cases were decided in favour of NAB, in 2011, 190 cases, in 2012, 154 cases, in 2013, 421 cases, in 2014, 476 cases, in 2015, 780 cases and till November 30, 2016, 1244 cases were won by NAB.
