He said the former food minister ignored the department’s recommendations and appointed a Grade 6 employee as chief of the Provincial Reserve Centre (PRC), located on the Sariab Road in Quetta.

The Grade 6 employee, during his tenure as chief of the PRC, allegedly embezzled 65,000 wheat bags, causing a loss of Rs280 million to the national exchequer, the NAB spokesman said.

NAB authorities took Mr Khosa to the bureau’s jail for further interrogation. He would be produced before the court for seeking physical remand. “More arrests are expected in the case,” said a source.

NAB officials said three references regarding embezzlement of over Rs2 billion were filed in the accountability court against another former food minister Asfandyar Kakar, a former secretary of the food department and many other officials of the department.
