NAB arrests former PHED chief engineer for corruption

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wednesday arrested Alla-ud-Din Khan, former Chief Engineer (BPS-19), posted at Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), for allegedly misusing authority, illegal commissions and kickbacks from the supplier companies, which caused about Rs24 million losses to the national exchequer.

A spokesman for NAB KP said that the Planning and Development Department had constituted a Provincial Committee for standardisation of engineering products and materials and the user departments have to procure the required engineering products and materials from the qualified firms and suppliers.

Accused Alla-ud-Din Khan, the then Chief Engineer PHED (KP), unilaterally and illegally shortlisted dummy firms without advertising the same in the media, and issued a circular to his subordinate officers bounding them to make procurements from the fake firms. Eventually, about 350 voltage stabilisers were purchased at exorbitant rates causing huge loss to the national exchequer.

It merits to mention here that dozens of XENs and SDOs has already been entered Voluntary Return (VR) and deposited millions of rupees to the public exchequer in the instant case. The accused will be produced before the Accountability Court Peshawar for obtaining his physical remand.
