NAB arrests two accused of media campaign scam

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has arrested two accused—Inam Akbar and Yousuf Kabooro from Islamabad for their alleged involvement in a media campaign funds scam.

According to a NAB statement issued here, the accused have been taken into custody after the Supreme Court recalled their ad interim bail.

It said Inam Akbar is the owner of a media advertising company while Yousuf Kabooro was serving as the Deputy Director of the Information Department, Government of Sindh. They were wanted in a reference filed against 17 accused for alleged embezzlement of Rs 3.2 billion, it added.

Inam Akbar has been charged of embezzlement of Rs 2.2 billion out of total Rs 3.2 billion. It said 12 accused were arrested on Oct 23, 2017 after their bails were recalled from Sindh High Court (SHC). While an accused (Fawad Mehmood, director of a media advertising company) has expired, another accused Aneeta Baloch, Officer of Information department, is still at large. Another accused Riaz Munir (CEO of an advertising company) got bail confirmed from the SHC.
