NAB authorizes inquiries against three former FBR chairmen

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Tuesday decided to authorize an inquiry against three former chairmen of Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) for their alleged involvement in corruption and misuse of authority.

The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of NAB chaired by its Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, included Salman Saddique, Abdullah Yousuf and Ali Arshad Hakeem ordered to initiate probes against the former chiefs of FBR including Salman Saddique, Abdullah Yousaf and Ali Arshad Hakeem.

Besides, the three former FBR chairmen, other accused ex-Collector Customs Mian Azhar Majeed, Member PACCs team, Iqbal Muneeb and Additional Collector Customs Ashir Azeem Gill were alleged of corruption and misuse of authority in award of computerization of FBR to a foreign company, M/s Agility. Their action caused a loss of $11 million and claim of $650 million by M/s Agility.

The award of contract and subsequent faulty working of contractual firm led to huge losses in clearance of custom goods at Karachi port.

Later, addressing the meeting, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry reiterated that NAB was committed to eradicate corruption and corrupt practices by adopting holistic and proactive approach through enforcement besides Awareness and Prevention Strategy across the country.

He directed all officers and officials of NAB to put in their best efforts in conduct of complaint verification, inquiries and investigations against corrupts in accordance with laid down laws and SOPs, transparently and on merit.
