NAB Balochistan recovers Rs 10 million from corrupt bank officials

QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan region has recovered Rs 10 million embezzled by the officials of Habib Bank Limited.

Director General, NAB Balochistan region, Major Retired Tariq Mehmood Malik on Thursday handed over cheque of Rs 2.85 million in first phase to Regional Chief of Habib Bank Complex Branch Quetta.

As per details, cashier of Habib Bank Limited, Majeed Sajid in connivance with Vault cashier Mohammad Saleem used to set-aside sizable amount after having received from the bank customers instead of depositing the total amount to the account of the bank.

HBL cashier had made heavy investment out of the amount set-aside from the customers deposited sum.

Bank management came to know about the wrong doing and fraudulent practice when Majeed was transferred to Cant branch of HBL and Rs 1 million was found missing from the bank account.

As Bank held Vault cashier, the other accused in the case accountable for the Rs one million money scam, he was coerced to lodge complaint with NAB seeking their indulgence into the case.

NAB Balochistan while taking up the glove initiated inquiry and not only arrested the both accused but also recovered embezzled amount under Plea Bargain, a section 25 of the National Accountability Ordinance 1999.

Director General NAB Balochistan, Tariq Mehmood Malik on the occasion vowed to fight menace of corruption and called upon people from all segment of the society to play their role in eradication of corruption.
