KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has dismissed several corruption cases in Sindh on account of not having enough evidence, a spokesman for the anti-graft body said on Thursday.
NAB officials claimed that the anti-graft body had closed the case against Faryal Talpur’s husband, Mir Munawwar Talpur for possessing illegal assets.
They said the case against Owais Muzaffar over assets had also been closed, and added that NAB could not complete its investigation against Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal.
According to sources, the cases of Sindh Law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar and Excise Minister Giyanchand Esrani have also been closed.
The NAB also closed a case against former Sindh education minister Pir Mazharul Haq pertaining to 13,000 illegal appointments. Haq was accused of corruption worth Rs 5 billion.
The anti-graft body failed to file a single reference against Manzoor Qadir, former director general of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), sources added, who was accused of corruption amounting to Rs30 billion.
On Wednesday, NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal responded to CM Punjab, and said that the anti-graft body’s “sun was shining across the country and not just in Punjab.”
“There will be no bias in our crackdown on corrupt persons and NAB does not believe in preferential treatment with anyone.” NAB chief added.
The statement by the NAB chief came in response to a statement made by Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who during a Labour Day event, had said that NAB’s sun was shining over Punjab. The CM also added that he welcomed the bureau’s investigations in the province but would not accept double standards.
