NAB detains govt officers, builders for usurping land

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday arrested government officers along with prominent builders and contractors, for their alleged criminal role in usurping 358 plots.

Rizwan Soomro, Incharge Media Cell – NAB Karachi sharing details of the arrest with the media said Reference was filed against them on the charges of their alleged criminal role in of Pak Punjab Cooperative Housing Society Ltd.  It comprised 25 acres of precious land situated at Sector 24-A, Scheme 33 Karachi.

Those arrested include Sajid Ali Khan Yousufzai, purported Ex-Secretary of the society, Mirza Munir Baig, former Assistant Registrar Cooperation Department -Sindh, Khudadad Khan Sub-Registrar Gulshan-II – Sindh and Muhammad Arif and Adnan. They were arrested during raids conducted early hours of the day in different parts of the metropolis, said the official. The NAB – Karachi official said those arrested had allegedly in connivance with each other usurped the plots by canceling the allotments of genuine members, enrolling illegal new members on the platform of a new bogus society (which included the names of employees of Sindh Workers Welfare Board).

They were said to be also allegedly indulged in illegal selling and transferring of the society’s plots to arrested builders in return for graft hence committing offence of corruption and misuse of authority.

The builders apprehended during the raid included Riaz Ilyas, the proprietor of Falaknaz Builders; Syed Amir Ali Shah, Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Arif proprietors of Marhaba, Platinum Builders and Sanober Builders respectively.

The above builders were said to had allegedly developed (including construction work) various illegal housing and commercial projects on the land of society and earned billions of illegal benefits.

The NAB official said of the 33 individuals nominated under Reference No. 6/2017, 13 are on bail and five of those accused were arrested this morning.

Fifteen of the remaining accused who also includes some other builders and illegal allottees are still at large, he said mentioning that the NAB has formed special teams for their arrest.
