RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi distributed a sum of Rs 13.141 million among 32 victims and government departments at a ceremony held here.
NAB Rawalpindi Director General Irfan Naeem Mangi was the chief guest at the occasion and handed over cheques to victims and government departments concerned.
Addressing the ceremony, Mangi reiterated that the NAB would continue its crackdown on the corrupt elements under the leadership of its Chairman Javaid Iqbal. “The NAB strongly believes in the zero-tolerance policy against corruption and hopes that the joint efforts of all stakeholders can collaborate to check corruption and corrupt practices before happening.”
He, however, said that the practice to invest in unauthorised schemes must be ended and discouraged.
In case of inquiry against Tele Town (Pvt) Ltd, Islamabad and others, the management of M/s Tele Town collected Rs 313 million illegally from general public without obtaining permission from CDA to advertise the scheme and sold 2,330 files/plots during 2004 – 2007. The management of M/s Tele Town did not obtain NOC from CDA for detailed layout plan. In NAB, about 200 members with an amount of Rs 30 million (approx) claimed for refund/plots. The management of the society submitted an application for plea bargain against the claims and in this regard a sum of Rs 30.02 million was accepted.
In two phases, NAB Rawalpindi already refunded an amount of Rs 11.54 million among 50 victims after verifying their claims. In third phase, the ceremony held on Monday, five victims were returned an amount of Rs 0.776 million.
In another case, investigation against Mufti Riaz Khan and others, accused Muhammad Uzair Shah showed willingness to pay back the liability against him. The one accused namely Muhammad Uzair Shah was also arrested on Feb 5, 2018. He submitted the original papers of his properties located in Attock. Around 26 complainants had recorded the statements against arrested accused Uzair Shah with a total liability of Rs 11,365,000. NAB Rawalpindi recovered all amount and handed over to 26 victims in the ceremony.
In another case, inquiry against officers/ officials of National Productivity Organization, NAB Rawalpindi recovered amount sum of Rs one million from M/s Imperial Associates and in second phase today same has been returned to National Productivity Organization. In first phase NAB Rawalpindi already handed over Rs.37 Million to National Productivity Organization.
Later, Mangi said that Pakistan was being considered as a role model for SAARC Countries in eradication of corruption due to NAB’s efforts and Pakistan was the only country among SAARC nations whose Corruption Perception Index (CPI), according to the Transparency International Report, had been decreased from 175 to 116 points.
