LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general Ahad Cheema in Ashiana Housing Scheme case.

Cheema is accused of awarding a Rs14 billion contract to Lahore Casa Developers for the Ashiana-e-Iqbal housing project by misusing his authority with criminal intent.

An investigation was launched against the management and officers of the Punjab Land Development Company and owners of Lahore Casa Developers. LDA officials were also implicated in the investigation after the contract award was cancelled by the government. M/S Chaudhry Latif and Sons had emerged as the successful bidders for the project.

Cheema and Bismillah Engineering chief executive officer (CEO) Shahid Shafiq were sent on a judicial remand by an accountability court in Lahore on June 19. A 90 and 87-day physical remand of the duo had ended before that.
