ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has expressed displeasure at the State Bank of Pakistan, Federal Bureau of Revenue, Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and the National Database and Registration Authority for dragging feet over providing the record of 435 Pakistanis named in the Panama Leaks.
Justice (retd) Javed chaired a meeting to review the progress of his three months in office in which he approved the filing of 43 references with the accountability courts and examination of 23 cases and 17 inquiries. He also took notice of non-provision of record of four companies out of the total 56.
The record of four companies is yet to be provided by the DG Anti-Corruption, Punjab, despite possessing the record. The chairman directed the chief secretary to furnish the required record with the bureau so as to complete investigation against 56 public limited companies.
The meeting reviewed progress on inquiries against 435 Pakistanis who were named in the PanamaLeaks for establishing companies in the British Virgin Island and Panama.
The chairman expressed displeasure over the slow response of SBP, FBR, SECP and Nadra towards providing the record of 435 Pakistanis and directed them to provide the requisite information in stimulated time.
Addressing the meeting, Justice Javed said cases would not be prolonged now, as majority of countrymen had pinned high hopes on the NAB. He said from now onwards the slogan of “Accountability for All” would be strictly adhered to and transparent accountability would be visible to all and sundry. “The NAB does not believe in revenge or having affiliation with any political party or individual,” he added.
