NAB forms teams to record statements in fake accounts case

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday constituted various teams to record statements from Karachi and Islamabad in the fake accounts case.

The teams were constituted at a meeting presided over by NAB chief Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, a NAB spokesman said, which reviewed the preliminary report of the case submitted by a combined investigation team (CIT). The spokesman said in the statement the teams were constituted in the light of the evidence.

The meeting discussed transferring of fake accounts case under 16-A from Banking Court Karachi to accountability courts in Islamabad, according to the NAB statement.

The forum reviewed progress in corruption cases and devised comprehensive strategy to effectively deal with such cases.

The NAB chief directed for the implementation of the judgment of the Supreme Court in letter and spirit by using all resources as per law.

He said the NAB believed in taking the investigations to their logical conclusion in the light of law and concrete evidence. Chairman NAB urged media to avoid speculation regarding fake accounts case.

The high-level meeting was attended by Prosecutor General NAB, DG Operations, DG NAB Rawalpindi and other senior officials.

It may be recalled that the NAB chairman had constituted a CIT, headed by DG NAB Rawalpindi pursuant to the judgment of the Supreme Court. He had also decided to personally supervise the CIT.
