NAB gets 10-day remand of ex-Fuuast official

An accountability court (AC) handed over the custody of a former planning and development director of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a period of 10 days.

Naeem Akthar is alleged to have his involvement in the misappropriation of university funds worth over Rs80 million. The accused is also alleged to have misused his powers and granted illegal contracts to misappropriate huge amount of funds, and in doing so caused a great loss to the national exchequer.

The court directed the investigation officer (IO) to interrogate the official for 10 days and produce the accused before the court.

Meanwhile, the AC hearing the corruption reference against former DIG Deen Muhammad Baloch and others, indicted a co-accused of the DIG, Murad Bukhsh Baloch; however, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Murad Bakhsh Baloch was earlier absconding in the case but was indicted, on an amended charge-sheet, after he surrendered before the court. On Baloch’s denial on being involved in the case, the court ordered for the production of witnesses at the next hearing.
