NAB-KP arrests Umar Waqas in corruption case

PESHAWAR: NAB–KP has arrested accused Umar Waqas (Absconder) Owner of Umar & Co. Alfalah Street, Arbab Road, Peshawar who allegedly involved in huge loss to state exchequer by supplying substandard equipments for science labs, stationary items, uniform at highly exorbitant rates.

The accused in the name of fake firms supplied substandard items without adopting genuine bidding process. The whole process was conducted in violations of PPRA Rules and caused huge loss of millions of rupees to the state exchequer.

NAB–KP spokesperson said as per inquiry conducted so far millions of rupees were paid to accused Asghar Awan and Manzoor Ghauri in the name of five fake and non-registered companies including Umar & Co. Alfalah Street, Arbab Road, Peshawar, Ashraf Enterprises, Monica Supply Agency etc. Heavy loss was caused to state exchequer on account of short supply and substandard supply of generators, vacuum cleaners, electricity equipments, uniforms etc.

The accused persons are involved in misappropriation of more than Rs 300.00 million in the name of supply of equipment through fake companies i.e. Ashraf Enterprises, Maxico Supply Agency, Ashraf Uniform Center, Umar & Co. Alfalah Street, Arbab Road, Peshawar. It is worth mentioning here that Tariq Awan, Secretary Worker Welfare Board (KP) who is the main culprit of this mega scam has already been arrested by NAB-KP.

The accused persons will be produced on Thursday before the Accountability Court Peshawar for obtaining their physical remand.
