Lahore NAB arrests seven in cooperative housing society scam

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested seven suspects, one civilian and six government employees of the cooperative housing society, on charges of corruption.

The arrested persons include, Fakharul Zaman, Yaqoob Loona, Zakaullah Bhatti, Tariq Ashraf Chaudary, Mian Ghulam Ali, Naveed Shaukat and Mian Ghulam Ali.

According to the authorities, Irrigation Housing Society was formed in 2012 on GT Road by the collusion of Irrigation Department. A large amount of money was collected from the people seeking to buy plots. After the allotment of plots, the process to attain installments was also underway.

The detainees include society’s former president Yaqoob Lona, secretary Ghulam Muhammad and member of purchase committee Tariq Ashraf. All the suspects have been shifted to Islamabad for further interrogation.
