NAB orders inquiry into alleged embezzlement & corruption committed by DG PDA

PESHAWAR: The Regional Board Meeting (RBM) of National Accountability Bureau Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held under the chairmanship of Brig (R) Farooq Naser Awan, Director General NAB (KP) Peshawar.

The meeting was attended by Directors, Additional Directors, Case Officers, Senior Legal Consultants and other officers concerned. Following decisions were taken during the meeting.

At the Regional Board Meeting (RBM), several inquiries were authorized & reference approved. An inquiry was authorized against Muhammad Saleem Hassan Watto, Director General, Peshawar Development Authority, regarding the corruption & corrupt practices in several projects.

It is alleged that the funds in renovation of DG PDA’s House, Installation of Street Lights on GT/Jamurd Road, Toll Plaza Hayatabad, installation of Digital Hoarding Boards were embezzled.

He awarded contracts without open competition to his handpicked companies in construction of roads in Regional Model Town Peshawar, establishment of Food Street in Phase-VI Hayatabad, installation of ruff tiles in Hayatabad Markets.

He hired ghost employees and illegally promoted junior officers. Further, it was alleged that DG PDA did not inform the authorities well about the completion of Bab-e-Peshawar Project and awarded himself and his handpicked favorites with honorarium.

He hired a team of private lawyers for himself on the pay-role of the PDA in violation of Central Law Officers Act-1971 and Supreme Court’s orders.

It is pertinent to mention here that honorable Peshawar High Court in deciding a writ petition filed by Saleem Watto, DG PDA, allowed the NAB to initiate inquiries against him on the fresh complaints.

Another inquiry was authorized against Officers/Officials of Agencies Education Offices FATA and FRs regarding the corruption & corrupt practices and embezzlement of funds.

The Regional Board also decided to file a reference against Muhammad Shoaib, Chief Municipal Officer (CMO), Tehsil Municipal Administration, District Kohat, regarding the misuse of authority committed in the illegal appointments in various cadres in violation of rules & regulations.

Another reference was recommended for the approval against Gul Habib, Ex-Superintendent of Grid Station Haripur regarding the accumulation of assets beyond the known source of income worth Rs45.620million.
