ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had recovered Rs7.504.564 million (more than Rs7.5 billion) in corruption cases since July 2013 to November 2015.
This was revealed by Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid on behalf of the Minister for Law and Justice while replying to a question at the National Assembly on Thursday.
Hamid said that the NAB initiated 1,674 inquires in corruption cases during the said period. In response to another question, the minister said that as many as 2113 inquiries were authorized in cases of mismanagement, irregularity and corruption during the last four years and around 2250 cases were also pending in various high courts. He said that the government has zero tolerance policy for corruption and it was also a part of PML-N manifesto.
Meanwhile, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry visited under construction site of office building for NAB Headquarters and inspected quality of work.
During the briefing, it was informed that construction work is continuing with full pace and structure of the building has been completed. Fixing of glass and artificial granite, underground water interception system, aluminium foil fixing around basement and electrification work is under progress.
The chairman directed that efforts should be made to complete the internal and external electrification work, procurement of lifts, public health work, construction of boundary wall etc as per schedule, ensuring all quality standards in accordance with PPRA rules.
