NAB recovers record Rs 1,222.47m, arrests 54 Rawalpindi corrupts

ISLAMABAD – Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), was informed during a briefing that during the last year, NAB Rawalpindi recovered Rs 1,222.47 million from corrupt persons and arrested 54 accused, which is the highest ever number for NAB Rawalpindi in any year.

On his annual inspection visit to NAB Rawalpindi Bureau, he said this is his third inspection visit to NAB Rawalpindi Bureau, after inspection of NAB Lahore and Karachi bureaus. He said that NAB Rawalpindi is particularly very important bureau as NAB Rawalpindi is a flagship of NAB and one of the important regional bureaus of NAB.

The Chairman’s Inspection & Monitoring Team (CI&MT) was deputed to conduct inspection. The inspection was carried out from January 21-23 in order to review and evaluate the performance of NAB Rawalpindi Bureau on the basis of a quantified grading system.

CI&MT senior member briefed the NAB Chairman the inspection done and highlighted the strengths and weakness of NAB Rawalpindi Bureau. He informed that a quantified grading system has been devised first time in NAB’s history – under this grading system, performance of NAB regional bureaus is being evaluated through a given criteria.

During the briefing, it was informed that NAB Rawalpindi/Islamabad received 8,260 complaints during the year and all of them were disposed of/completed. This number of complaints was highest ever in the history of NAB Rawalpindi. NAB Rawalpindi Complaint Verification Cell (CVC) completed 196 complaints’ verification during 2014. In 2014, NAB Rawalpindi authorised 160 inquiries and completed 97 out of these cases.
