ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) held a meeting to coordinate and make arrangements for ‘Country Review of Pakistan’ under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), scheduled to be held here from September 7 to 10.
“Country Review of Pakistan” under the UNCAC by the joint reviewers from Norway and Solomon Islands including experts from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Secretariat (Vienna) will start from September 7 to 10, 2015 in Islamabad,” said a NAB press release issued here Friday.
The purpose of the country visit is to assist the joint reviewers of Pakistan in the country assessment of the implementation of the articles under the Convention.
The preparatory and consultative meeting of the governmental experts was chaired by Prosecutor General Accountability (PGA) Waqas Qadeer Dar.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Director International Cooperation Wing (ICW) NAB Headquarters Zafarullah Khan, Additional Director Zafar Iqbal Khan, Deputy Director Muhammad Shoaib, Senior Legal Consultant/Prosecutor Osman Karim Khan, Banking expert Operations Division Sohail Ahmed, Deputy Director NAB/Focal Person Country Review of Pakistan Umer Zaman, Director Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Khalida Habib, Additional Director Anti-corruption Establishment Punjab, Lahore Mirza Naseer Inayat, Senior Joint Director State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Karachi Amjad Iqbal, Additional Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Islamabad Pir Jaffar Shah, Deputy Director Anti-Corruption Establishment, Balochistan, Quetta Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Tanvir Hussain Shah from Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights, Deputy Director Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) Karachi Kamran Hyder and Deputy Director FMU Sumera Balouch.
Deputy Director NAB and Focal Person for ‘Country Review of Pakistan’ Umer Zaman gave a detailed presentation to all the governmental experts on the background of the Convention, the guiding principles of the UNCAC Review Mechanism and requirements of the Country Review of Pakistan – starting from September 7 to 10, 2015 in Islamabad.
PGA NAB Waqas Qadeer Dar said that the Bureau was the focal institution for ‘Country Review of Pakistan.’ All concerned ministries, divisions and departments including NAB should meet the requirements of the joint reviewers in the effective implementation of the UN Convention during the upcoming meeting.
