NAB strictly follows its policy of indiscriminate accountability: chairman

SUKKUR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal said on Thursday that the institution is strictly following the policy of indiscriminate accountability.

He expressed these views during his visit to NAB Sukkur where he reviewed the performance of the bureau. Director-General NAB Sukkur Mirza Mohammad Irfan Baig gave detailed briefing to him.

Addressing the officers. he said that NAB Sukkur is an important bureau of NAB which is playing vital role in outstanding performance of NAB. He said that NAB Sukkur received 25400 complaints from which 618 complaints were addressed after scrutiny.

He said NAB approved 345 inquiries and 106 investigations while 203 corrupt persons were taken into custody. He said 102 references were filed in NAB court of Sukkur. Justice ® Javed Iqbal said that 800 character building societies were established in 800 universities and colleges while Rs10 billion were handed over to member Sindh Revenue Board (SRB).

Chairman NAB lauded the performance of NAB Sukkur under the supervision of Director-General Mirza Mohammad Irfan Baig and also directed to further enhance the performance. Later on, addressing a function chairman NAB said that from last three years 1536 flats which were constructed for the workers of welfare board were issued allotment letters. 276 houses were also constructed for workers welfare board Sindh were also issued allotment letters.

He said Rs300 million were allocated under the head of merit grant but Rs100,000 which were not being given to employees, now this grant is also being paid due to efforts of NAB. He said NAB recovered Rs7.4 million from defaulters of SEPCO and handed over the same to SEPCO authorities. NAB chairman also approved inquiry against budget of health department of Sindh.

He directed thorough inquiry into purchase of life saving medicines and dog’s bite vaccine cases. He further directed to probe why life saving medicines and dog’s bite cases for which amount were allocated were not spent on this purpose.
