The investigations were launched after allegations of illegal appointments in the department surfaced. The regional board has authorized inquiry against a female district education officer in Dera Ismail Khan and an administrative officer in Nowshera. The board has also approved supplementary references pertaining to assets beyond means against Umar Hayat, senior auditor and district account officer of Shangla.

In March, the provincial chapter of the apex anti-corruption watchdog said that it will launch an inquiry against employees of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Secretariat, officials of the revenue department and a senior engineer at the Cantonment Board of Peshawar.
