Nandi Pur project will be operational soon, Kh Asif claims

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Defence and Water and Power Khawaja Asif has calimed that the Nandi Pur Power Project would soon be made operational after converting its oil treatment plant to LNG.

The minister, speaking at a private news channel, said that technically the government has not taken over the Nandi Pur Power Project yet. He said that the government has no objection on any audit or any kind of inquiry or investigation to probe into the project.

The minister said that the government has maintained the circular debt at Rs 314 billion which has not been increased. He added the agreement for the production of electricity on liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) would soon be finalized and the reverse payment plan with the Ministry of Petroleum for the purchase of LNG would also be finalized soon, he added.

To a question, the minister said that the loadshedding was decreased from twelve hour and maintained at six hours per day during the incumbent regime. The Minister said that NEPRA has never stated that the 70 percent of the electric meters were faulty.

Replying to another question, Khawaja Asif said that initially five old faulty power plants including Muzaffargarh, Multan, Guddu, Kotary and Jamshoro would be replaced to minimize the oil consumption for provision of low cost electricity.
