NEW YORK: If you think the Northern Lights look beautiful from Earth, take a look at this dazzling new video (above) from Scott Kelly.
The NASA astronaut shot the video of a shimmering aurora borealis from his perch aboard the International Space Station — and then shared it on his Twitter account on Saturday.
Kelly, who is almost five months into his one-year mission aboard the International Space Station, shared another video of aurora borealis from space in June. He has also shared stills of auroras, including the dramatic photo (below) that he posted a couple of hours before the latest video.
As Kelly suggested in the tweet of the still photo, auroras appear in as a result of interactions between Earth’s atmosphere and energetic particles released by the sun.
Of course, you don’t need science to see how beautiful auroras are!
