WASHINGTON: According to Daily Mail, NASA has assembled a team of “extraterrestrial experts,” including scientists from ASU, to determine if livable conditions exist outside of our solar system.
The team from ASU will attempt to study planetary habitability in a chemical context by creating a “periodic table of planets,” according to Daily Mail.
The initiative, named Nexus for Exoplanet System Science (Nexss), will also include scientists from nine other universities, including Stanford, the University of California and Yale.
The initiative’s announcement comes just weeks after NASA’s top scientist predicted we could be on the verge of finding life outside of Earth, according to Daily Mail.
According to the article, more than 1,000 exoplanets have been found since the launch of the Kepler space telescope six years ago.
NASA also set up a website that allows people to search for data gathered by the telescope.
