TOKYO: Naughty Dog talked briefly on the development for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End during the Operation Supply Drop 2015 livestream on Twitch. Environment Artist, Andrew Maximov, described how Naughty Dog always tries to push the boundaries of what they can achieve and do things that no other developer has dared to do.

Maximov said he likes working at Naughty Dog because they are always striving to “step it up a notch” . The team also tries to do things that “no one has ever done before“. He says working there is always a challenge, but they try and solve problems knowing that it will pay off at the end.

Maximov gave a little example of what Naughty Dog is currently doing in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The team was struggling with hair movement in the game. Maximov brought up the idea of using the same foliage tech he’d been working on to the character’s hair. He showed the team the movement of hair in the wind and everyone agreed this looked “next-gen“.

He went on to say that not every idea brought up in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is possible because of the time and budget. However, Naughty Dog is always open to any idea that is thought up by from a member of the team.

This is probably why Naughty Dog delayed Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End until Spring 2016. The team is full of perfectionists, which is a good thing. This means the end product will actually be good.
