Nawaz inaugurates 2nd phase of 1,000 MW solar power project in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: After completion of first unit 100MW, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday inaugurated the second phase of country’s first solar power project in Bahawalpur.

An advanced grid station has been built and a 132 kilovolts (kV) transmission line has been installed for the electricity supply. The Punjab government has bore all the expenditures of the project, which aims at adding 1,000 MW electricity to the national grid after completion.

Chinese president Xi Jinping had laid the foundation stone of the second phase of project during his historic visit in April. The first unit stretches across as many as 500 acres with a cost of at least Rs 15 billion.

The inaugural ceremony of the second phase was attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chinese ambassador along with other dignitaries.
