NDP smuggled vehicle valued Rs06m taken into possession

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General, Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Federal Board of Revenue Rawalpindi, has impounded a non-duty-paid smuggled used vehicle Mark X car worth Rs06million including duty and taxes.

On a tip-off, staff of the Directorate Customs Intelligence, including Intelligence Officers Maqbool Ahmad and Shahid Majeed, signaled the said vehicle to stop. But driver with fake registration No: 268-ICT Islamabad modelled 2006 accelerated the speed of the vehicle. The staff chased the vehicle. The driver abandoned the vehicle on the roadside and fled the scene.

Despite the hectic efforts by the staff of the Rawalpindi Directorate, they could not trace the driver of the car, so Intelligence Officers took the vehicle into possession in the presence of the witnesses. No import record existed in the import data of the vehicles available with the directorate.

Nobody appears to claim the ownership of the car. The Directorate Rawalpindi impounded the said unclaimed car under Section 17 of the Customs Act-1969 for further verification of its import and auction status and payment of duty and taxes.
