PARSA: Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) patrol team has exchanged fire with drug smugglers at Shankar saraiya VDC in the district and seized a large cache of hashish and marijuana meant to be smuggled to India from the site where the smugglers traded fire with police here the other night.
According to APF Superintendent Bhim Bahadur Thapa, the drug smugglers opened fire at the APF patrol team when the latter ran into them a forest in Shankarsaraiya-2 at around 12.45am. He said that the security team fired in retaliation after the gang of about 10 smugglers fired at them.
After the shootout, the smugglers managed to flee into the forest to avoid being arrested by taking advantage of darkness. The APF personnel recovered 140 kg hashish packed in seven sacks and 45 kg marijuana from the incident site. It is suspected that the smugglers have been using the area to smuggle drugs to India.
