ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), on request of Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), has announced Rs 3.83 per unit cut in power tariff for December 2015 for monthly fuel price adjustment.

The CPPA had requested Nepra to reduce the electricity price owing to reduction in prices of furnace oil and high-speed diesel in the international market. The customers of all the distribution companies except K-Electric and lifeline consumers using less than 50-300 units would get relief in the next month.

The decision was taken after a public hearing presided over by Nepra Chairman Brig (r) Tariq Sadozai on a petition filed by CPPA on behalf of the distribution companies. The Nepra was apprised that 6.673 billion units were sold to the distribution companies during December 2015.

The total impact of lower fuel price adjustment is estimated at over Rs 20 billion. The CPPA said that the reference fuel cost for December was fixed at Rs 8.10 per unit but the power generation cost remained Rs 5.45 per unit.
