Nestlé Portugal makes €17 mln investment in facilities

LISBON: Nestlé Portugal has increased the level of investment it made in its Portugese business last year by 4.2 per cent, to €17.2 million, and plans to match that investment this year.

According to the director general of the company, Jordi Llach, a total of €8.1 million was invested in 2015, in the upgrading of three existing factories in Portugal: in Porto (coffee) in the Azores (milk) and Avanca (multiple products). Much of last year’s investments was targeted at the Avanca unit, which produces 35,000 tonnes per year of products such as breakfast cereals, beverages and nutritional brands.

Nestlé Portugal increased sales by 1.2 per cent, to €446.7 million last year, with coffee accounting for over 50 per cent of total sales in the country. Exports accounted for 17 per cent of total sales (+5% y/y), reaching a value of €78 million. Products were exported to 36 countries.
